A Pipe and a Smile
One of the actors wearing his lifejacket and uniform had this pipe with him all evening.
Front Clearing
The weather on Saturday was horrible, but at around 4pm the front moved away to the east and the sun came out. The trailing edge of the front is clearly visible behind the Lancaster.
Evening Light
With the wet weather moving off to the east the evening sun bathes Lancaster Just Jane in a wonderful light.
Crew Rest
Discussions ongoing leant against the undercarriage of the Lancaster.
Navigation Brief
Crew working in front of the Lanc and around the bombs discussing the routing.
Pilots
Two pilots in discussion around Just Jane in the evening sunlight.
The Crew
The actors were perfectly dressed and very much looked the part all evening, some had apparently travelled from the south coast to be there for the evening.
Vintage
A crew car sits on the Apron by Just Jane as the aircraft is prepared.
Dakota
A Douglas C47 sits in the hangar at East Kirkby, I love these old aircraft - always have.
Silhouetted
The big Merline Engines rest as the sun sets on the Lancaster Just Jane. A distinctive silhouette if ever I saw one.
Sunset and Mist
A small amount of mist creeps across the airfield towards the Lancaster as the sky turnes from day to night.
First Run
The first run of the Lanc in the last rays of light, mist creeping behind the aircraft. Blue flame can be seen from the exhausts as the Merlin engines spit and roar majestically in front of us.
Head On
Looking almost directly at the nose of the Lancaster during the first run.
Resting
First run complete, the Lancaster sits on the pan ready for further action as the moon rises high and lights her back.
With the first run completed the crew came out and prepared for the second run of the evening. Atmospheric lighting on this shot shows the cockpit up really well.
Fiery Start
The second start of the evening in three stages composited together to show the fire coming from engines 1 and 4 during the start-up. Engine 1 had to have two attempts to start this time.
Just Jane
The final run of the night and props fully spinning, a glorious sight and more importantly sound from those Merlin engines.
