Bilbao

Towering High

This is the tallest building in Bilbao by my reckon, a modern skyscraper in the Abando district. This shot was with the Nikon 14-24 lens, standing on the inside of the roundabout outside. Difficult to get everything in shot with trees growing.

Upwards

Moving close to the buildings with the fisheye starts some awesome distortion effects, and the sky looked pretty good too!

Glass Entrance

The main entrance into the Guggenheim Museum is at the bottom of a flight of stone steps leading past the titanium walls. The building fair towers above you.

Curves

Golden colours on the titanium walls of the Guggenheim.

As with everything on the Guggenheim, even the advertising board near the entrance isn't straight!

Shiny Balls

In the water around the river side of the Guggenheim is a tall sculpture made of chrome balls. As you do.

The river side of the Guggenheim and the curves continue. In hindsight we should have shot general views of the building from the other side of the river to avoid the parallax and other angle issues.

The Setting Sun

A more general view of the Guggenheim, this angle wasn't the easiest to shoot as the wall of metal made it a bit "plain". The sunset helped.

Giant Spiders

People walk beneath the giant Spider on the walkway around the Guggenheim.

The Wide View

A fisheye shot of the Guggenheim from the walkway bridge. The La Salve Bridge on the far left was planned to be one of my photo targets on this trip - until we arrived on the bus and found it covered in scaffolding. D'oh.

Tom's Window

Tom spent ages experimenting with this window, so I got a quick shot of it to see what the fuss was about.

Guggenheim Curves

Another fisheye shot of the Guggenheim, barely a straight edge anywhere. The reflections in the water add yet more curves to the shot.

Fire From The Holes

The first time these went off was a surprise, I'll tell you. Five square pits which I'd seen earlier in the day - but when fire leapt from them (noisily) it gave an unexpected photo op.

Sunset Fire

Moving around a bit to catch the sun setting behind the old city and the fire from a lower angle.

Lighting Up

As the sun sets the Guggenheim changes colour once more, the light turning more subtle and the building a paler grey. The lights within the atrium begin to show a greater influence on the area.

Gold and Blue

The canopy turns golden with the setting sun and the lights from within the atrium. The blue sky contrasts nicely against it.

Lit Walkways

The Iberdrola is the tallest building in Bilbao, and is visible from many parts of the city. The Guggenheim is the most imposing building, but on a Wednesday evening becomes quiet quickly once the sun sets.

Curvy

A final shot of the Guggenheim from the walkway, the ball tower is visible in Tom's Window too!

The tall ball sculpture looked good in the early morning light as we began our stroll down the river.

Experimenting with very contrasty monochrome on this shot which shows the huge curves the building has.

Along the Guggenheim

Difficult to get an angle to encompass everything, so with a bit of tilt the detail can be shown in both the modern Guggenheim and the old town across the river.
