Banking

Canary Wharf looms large on the Docklands skyline along with so many of the other new buildings in the Docklands area. My first proper experiments with my Lee filters, and despite this being the only time all afternoon that it rained rather pleased with the result! Scored 17/20 in the BCC POTY 2015 Round 5 - Man-Made.

Climb and Descend

Even on a Sunday Docklands was busy-ish, with a steady stream of people coming and going. Sadly the fun squad prevented us from photographing here so this was the only shot I got as a hand-held HDR, interestingly two security guards told two different stories to two different photographers within 5 metres of each other. Consistency is lacking I fear. Scored 19/20 in the BCC POTY 2015 Round 5 - Open.

Spiral Lightbeam

The ornate staircase in Usher Hall, Edinburgh - a whir of stairs with a shaft of light from the roof to almost the basement floor, great colours down the whole staircase and a big thanks to Usher Hall staff for being so accommodating on my rapid visit through Edinburgh! Held back and scored 19/20 in BCC POTY 2015 R1 - Open.

Infinity PIer

Southport Pier, so long it crosses a road and heads into town. This is about 2/3rds of the way out to see, so lots more pier behind us. Low tide on Southport Beach as the cleanup from the previous weekend's airshow continued. Scored 18/20 in the BCC POTY 2015 Round 2 - Open.

Underground Mini

First time using a car rig - good fun, although a little bit scary to have that value of camera attached to a carbon fibre pole, secured by suction cups. This shot was made was in the bottom level of the Sainsbury's Car Park at The Hub in Milton Keynes, a deserted area late on a Saturday evening. Taken at walking pace but the effect is just as good. Two images used for this - one had the Mini sharper, the other had a great background with the zebra crossing. About 8hrs worth of cloning went in to removing the rig from the shot! Held back, and scored 20/20 in the BCC POTY 2014 Round 6 - Open.

New to Old

The Millennium Footbridge stretches from the Tate Modern across to the north bank of the Thames and St Pauls Cathedral, a brightly lit beacon of historical importance on the ever-modernising skyline of London. Held back, and scored 20/20 in the BCC POTY 2014 Round 6 - Bridging the Gap.

Power Above the Lines

Night-time has fallen as we reach the final stop of the day, a spot I've been meaning to visit for a while. Battersea Power Station looms on the skyline behind the Victoria Railway Sheds as trains snake past to and from the Thames. Hard to believe that Battersea is on the south bank of the River Thames - while the sidings are on the north bank. Held back and scored 20/20 in the BCC POTY 2014 Round 7 - Open.

Waiting

Baker Street Station on the Metropolitan Line is one of the most interesting stations I've seen architecturally, the platform is quiet except for the one couple enjoying a sit down and a drink before their train arrives. Entered into the 101st Southampton International Exhibition (Travel Digital category) where it scored 9/15 and was not accepted. Entered into the Evesham Camera Club Annual Exhibition 2014 (Monochrome category) where it scored 12/15 and was accepted. Entered into the Basingstoke Camera Club National Open Photography Exhibition 2014 (Monochrome category) where it scored 12/15 and was accepted. Scored 20/20 in the BCC POTY 2014 Round 4 - Open.

The Driver

The train approaches the platform from the north and the driver peers grimily out of the train cab looking backwards. Entered into the 101st Southampton International Exhibition (Open Digital category) where it scored 12/15 and was accepted. Scored 20/20 in the BCC POTY 2014 Round 3 - Character.

The Angel of the North

Lots of cloud over the giant sculpture overlooking the A1 and all points south, first time I've ever seen this sculpture by Anthony Gormley in the flesh. Wasn't as wowed by it as I was by the Kelpies ironically.

Dinosaur Traffic

Lots of people fill the Central Hall in the Natural History Museum - one of the last days of the school holidays combined with the Dinosaur exhibition made this a popular museum to visit. Almost dark by the time we found the hall, but still popular! Scored 20/20 in the BCC POTY 2014 Round 2 - Open.
