From the Pond

Water flows from the pond into the Falls over this wall, a cottage sits alongside still in use.

Near The Top

A fall that needs a model sitting under it, if only I could find one bonkers enough. I'd be forever petrified they'd drown or cut their feet or catch a cold.

Greens and Orange

Old leaves, fresh moss. Different colours around the small fall at Lumsdale.

Spilling

Derwent Reservoir emptying itself over the Derwent Dam, lots of water - lots of noise.

Behind Derwent Dam

The bottom of Derwent Reservoir and water spills across the Derwent Dam down into Ladybower Reservoir. This is the location the Dambusters practiced on in their Lancasters.

Running Down

The water is escaping the plugholes quickly and heading down into the River Derwent below.

The Top Big Fall

Just below the cascades is this large drop into a shallow pool, before the water runs through the ruins of the old mill.

Debris

One drawback of the falls is the amount of sticks and foliage that gets caught in awkward places - next time we will visit with wellies and be braver in the water to get the right shots!

Downward

There are several parts to Lumsdale Falls - the cascade at the top precedes a large fall, then this babbling downhill section before another BIG fall before the water settles down at the bottom of the valley. All weaves through an old derelict mill, so much to explore around there.

Falls Long View

Standing almost at the top of the largest waterfall - one which I did not have time to shoot, and will return to for sure soon - and looking back up the Falls.

Lumsdale Falls

Lumsdale Falls are a series of waterfalls cut into the limestone surrounding Bentley Brook, and amongst the ruins of numerous old mills now owned by the Arkwright Society. I took this shot from the site of the old Saw Mill, which is mostly gone now but some walls still remain. I want to return here when I have much more time to explore and photograph the old ruins and the water. This was a long exposure shot with just a polariser attached because the tree cover darkened the ambient light sufficiently to get 25s at f/22.
